RFP: GG23 Grantee Onboarding/Education Program

Overview
We are seeking experienced grantees within the Gitcoin ecosystem to lead our community-led onboarding program for GG23. These Onboarding Partners will be responsible for educating grantees and builders, building upon the success of the GG22 Onboarding Program.

Scope of Work
Throughout this program, Onboarding Partners are expected to educate grantees and builders on critical aspects of the Gitcoin Grants Program, including but not limited to:

  1. Quadratic Funding (QF)
  • Understanding the QF mechanism, and its role in funding rounds
  1. Retro-Funding
  • Explanation of retro-funding, why it’s being implemented, and how to navigate the platform
  1. Builder Stages
  • Helping applicants identify whether they are early-stage or mature builders
  1. GG23
  • Understanding the updates made to the Grants Program in GG23
    • The switch to Multi-Mechanism (why, how it works, etc.)
  • Understanding how to apply
    • Application process
    • Qualifications
    • Connecting to integrations (Github, etc.)
    • Obtaining an OSS license
    • The review process
  • Understanding how to find support and report bugs
  1. Technical Tools
  • Understanding Checker and Markdown
  • Utilizing Grants Stack + Live Demos
  1. Marketing & Promotion
  • Strategies to market rounds
  • How to create a compelling elevator pitch

Onboarding Partners will be responsible for hosting their sessions on Gitcoin’s Discord and other socials. Gitcoin will support the marketing and amplification of these onboarding sessions to direct grantees to these sessions.

After the program, Onboarding Partners are expected to provide an after-action report and complete a brief survey from the Gitcoin Team to assess the program’s impact.

Deliverables
Onboarding Partners should prepare and deliver the following materials:

  • Google Slide Deck
  • Live demos
  • Video tutorials
  • Blog posts & guides
  • Office Hours
  • Visual replays of workshops for Gitcoin to use across social media

It is up to those proposing to outline what the program will look like, and clearly include the “Scope of Work” and the “Deliverables List”.

Selection Criteria
We will be selecting one (1) proposal from within the Gitcoin ecosystem. Applicants should:

  • Be a group of experienced grantees who have participated in at least three (3) grants rounds.
  • Have experience with Gitcoin’s product suite, and be comfortable onboarding others to the product suite.
  • Be available for 1-2 hours per day to successfully onboard and educate GG23 grantees and builders throughout the program timeline. We will amplify efforts and direct grantees to this program.

Selected Onboarding Partners will host live demos, AMA sessions, and other spaces in line with the defined scope of work. Additionally, the selected Onboarding Partners will be considered for upcoming community engagement initiatives.

At the close of the submission period, the RFP Manager(s) will select a proposal according to the criteria. If there are any adjustments in the criteria, the adjustments will be published. The onboarding program should remain in the scope of work set out above. If you think that going beyond the scope of work will benefit the program, please reach out to the RFP Manager(s) to confirm.

Timeline

  • Submissions Open: Now until February 14, 2025
  • Selection Announcement: By February 19, 2025
  • Material Preparation: February 19 - March 10, 2025
    • Selected grantees will be added to a Telegram chat or designated Discord channel for communication with the Gitcoin Team
  • GG23 Grantee Onboarding Period: March 10 - March 27, 2025

Funding & Commitment
The selected grantees will commence the Onboarding Program between March 10 - March 27th. In preparation, Onboarding Partners should develop an education and onboarding plan for grantees once their participation has been confirmed.

This program will be funded through the Citizen Grants Program budget.Compensation will be dispersed upon the completion of the Onboarding/Education Program.

Evaluation and Lessons Learned
Upon conclusion of the Onboarding/Education Program, we will provide a retrospective with feedback from the grantees, an after action report, and responses from the RFP manager(s).

yes! having experienced grantees run this program is the basis of the program and it’s common that they participate in the rounds themselves. no problem there.

Experience :
Our team has hands-on experience with Gitcoin’s suite, including Quadratic Funding as we have participated in 7 Gitcoin rounds combined, retro-funding, integration processes as we have pretty good projects of our own (GitHub, OSS licensing), and the evolving GG23 multi-mechanism framework.

We also have hands on experience with grant applications with more than 10 successful applications including the Gitcoin applications, which’ll add to our helping capacity to other potential grantees.

We have successfully hosted multiple onboarding sessions, live demos, and AMA sessions, fostering active community involvement and knowledge-sharing. Ayush founder of Stogram has also spoken in one of recent Gitcoin’s twitter spaces.

About our Initial planned Program and Approach :
(this can also be counted as deliverable ) :

  • We’ll be writing Twitter thread on “How-to’s” and “What-to’s” Almost everyday explaining and guding through every possible aspects and features
  • Video/Visual guides will be posted on both Youtube and twitter, guiding the grantees on how to use the gitcoin the suite covering application process, donation process qualification required ,OSS obtaining process, using gitcoindonordata, builder, gov etc.
  • We’ll be hosting AMA’s on Twitter Spaces everyday for grantees to help them out with their issues, explaining them concepts of QF, Retro funding and guiding them on what round suits their project the best.
  • Google slide decks will also be made available to using and explaining every possible process that they’ll be going through.
  • We’ll be publishing guides and walk throughs with the Gitcoin suite on Atlassian, Medium, X articles and Gitcoin Gov if permitted, giving them at most exposure to public
  • We’ll be attending the questions of grantees that’ll be posted on Gitcoin’s TG and Discord.
  • We’ll also be going through their queries on our personal X and TG accounts.
  • Live Demos of Gitcoin’s tools will also be holded 5 necessarily, more if required.
  • A feedback form will also be circulated to improve our Program’s effeceincy and if any queries will be asked through feedback they’ll be also accounted for.
  • All the above listed materials will be shared on our personal handles as well.
  • All the GG23 Updates will also be shared in all forms of communications.
  • Separate Threads/ spaces will be hosted to explain the different funding mechanisms (QF, Retro etc.)
  • Tweets and guide will be published for grantees to identify the stage of their project. (pre-mature, mature etc.)

Our initial onboarding plan will play the above mentioned deliverables, we might add to it so that we can help grantees in all forms even if it’s not on our mentioned scope.

The plan focuses on onboarding and educating OSS builders by:

  1. Building a Database – Identifying early-stage builders using metrics from platforms like GitHub, GitLab, hackathons, and awards.
  2. Leveraging Partnerships – Using the Gitcoin Checker and OSO partnership, as well as similar grant programs from ecosystems like Arbitrum, Optimism, Metis, and Polygon for sourcing early-stage builders & cold outreach.
  3. Event Strategy – Organizing a structured series of events to guide builders from beginner to expert, ensuring continuity even if they miss an event.
  4. Targeting Web2 OSS Builders – Applying the same database-building strategy to Web2 developers and aligning events to smoothly transition them into Web3.
