Hi. Thanks for this introduction to the stewards.
I have a few questions:

  1. What sybil attacks have you stopped in the last 2 rounds. I only see links to the last 2 rounds, I cannot find any information about the actual sybil attacks that were stopped.

  2. What information did you use to look into all grant recipients? Is this information transparent? The new explorer format doesnā€™t post the entirety of the wallet addresses for the grants looking to be funded.

  3. Can you provide me with more information on the steward cards? The process is unclear, as the get involved link leads to the main grants donation page.

  4. Also what is the Kharma score that stewards have to meet?

  1. Where can I find this information?

  2. Should these stewards be participating in Grant rounds?

I am excited to express my interest in becoming a steward for Gitcoin DAO. I believe that my skills, experience, and passion for Sybil defense ensure that I will be a successful steward. I am committed to actively participating in the decision-making processes and contributing to the direction and success of Gitcoin.

I recently joined Gitcoin as Product lead and workstream co-lead for Gitcoin Passport. I joined Gitcoin because this product is a critical primitive to unlocking web3. If we can eliminate bots/Sybils, weā€™ll unlock the potential for so much, from better airdrops to quadratic voting. So much is possible if we can eliminate Sybils!

I bring a diverse range of skills from 16+ years in product management leadership across a range of VC backed startups. Iā€™ve been deep into Crypto since the end of 2019, mostly around NFTs and gaming, which has exposed me to a variety of DAOs from a contributor / consumer perspective, excited to take those learnings to improving Gitcoin DAO from a leadership perspective.

I grow up in a very ethnically eclectic and politically chaotic country, Turkey. I studied sociology and psychology, and read Foucault a lot. Experiencing, witnessing, and knowing are very different things. Centralized governance is dysfunctional, and creates and reproduces inequality which leads to corruption and violence. Decentralized decision-making empowers the whole. Iā€™m interested in decentralized governance and funding mechanisms as a person who has had ā€œauthority issuesā€ since an early age. Iā€™ve decided to learn and deep dive into the governance space and learn more about the issues, potential, and how can we solve and design things on the interface level at the beginning of this year. I become a full-time researcher of decentralized governance space. I completed a UX research case study and governance tool UX checklist

As a UX person and ex-product manager, I see Gitcoin as one of the most important entities that try to embody the values this space advocates and Iā€™m vibing with it, vibing with the people in it. Therefore I would like to not only participate in the decision-making process to better understand, and detect the participantsā€™ needs but also to complete my DAO governance tool UX case study and create new solutions in the governance space as a UX specialist.

I wonder if there should be a max amount of voting power per delegate in relation to quorum.
For example, if a delegate has Voting Power of 1.68M that is 67% of quorum. Tally | kevinolsen.eth

Statement of Intention / My Values & Reasons for Joining:

A scientist by training, my web3 journey began in mid-2021 as I was exploring ways to use technology to more effectively fund scientific research and to align incentives across academia and industry. As I ā€œwent down the rabbitholeā€ and began to see the coordination potential of DAOs and crypto more generally, I became involved in the emerging DeSci movement through LabDAO.

Over the next year, I was inspired by the parallels between the public goods funding work being done by Gitcoin and what I hoped to build for the world of science. I joined PGF as a part time contributor in S17 to establish DeSci as a community-run round and got a first hand look at how Gitcoin operates, the challenges it faces, and the massive potential held by this community.

As a steward, I hope to help Gitcoin advance towards becoming a hyperstructure that is able to sustainably support public goods like open source software and scientific research. The 6 weeks I spent at Zuzalu showed me just how important of a role Gitcoin plays in the Ethereum ecosystem, and I am honoured to support and advocate for it.

I joined Gitcoin because I felt the organization and products weā€™re developing have some of the biggest and longest-term impacts on how the Web3 industry expands its impact and perception, even outside of Web3. Iā€™m deeply passionate about public goods (fun fact ā€“ I wrote my college thesis on community-owned forests as a public good) and pair that with a background in product strategy and leadership. Blockchain technology is fundamentally about democratizing access to public goods. In my view, Gitcoin is the primary organization pursuing, developing, and deploying those values to the web3 community. Even in this ā€œbear market,ā€ Gitcoin has continued to push the envelope with the Grants Stack and Passport initiatives, putting it in pole position to emerge, in the next ā€œbull market,ā€ as a leading voice for grant-making and secure identity. I also believe that DAOs, once the concept and structure matures, will be a tremendous way to rapidly innovate new products, services, and offerings in web3, and Iā€™m glad that Gitcoin has taken up the mantle of that maturation. Itā€™s rocky, but someone has to do it! So, take those factors together: grants, identity, and DAO development. Thatā€™s my reason for putting faith in Gitcoinā€™s future and wanting to participate in it.

Statement of Intention/My Values & Reason for Joining:

Circa 2018-2019, I stumbled upon a foundational insight: Value Exchange in the form of Neurotransmitters between Neurons is Peer-to-Peer and ā€œTrustless.ā€ This opened the proverbial Rabbithole, which led me to web3 where I learned the same dynamics were unfolding on Decentralized Networks like Ethereum. Gitcoin Grants & Quadratic Funding elevated this to a whole new level. I have since done my best to fund grants in nearly every round.

Another reason Iā€™m here is to uphold the Hippocratic Oath Iā€™ve taken as a Physician and Psychiatrist. Unfortunately, structures of our legacy systems have morphed into shackles that antagonize the accommodation of healthcare, and also the translation of groundbreaking scientific discoveries into clinical practice. Case in point is my private practice where we have to spend more time and effort on prior authorizations for objectively helpful interventions like Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and the documentation of clinical encounters, than the patient encounters themselves; I.e. more time on the Proof-of-Work than the Work itself.

I have therefore participated more actively in Gitcoin Grants since the inaugural DeSci Round in GR15, where I was supported by our community to explore the Neuroscience of Ethereum. This project has since evolved into the Archimedesā€™ Lever (will take this opportunity again to thank everyone for the enormous support in this Gitcoin Grants Citizens Round :pray:). Having experienced a full trough to peak to trough market cycle, I have experientially learned that web3 is here to stay. So is Gitcoin.

I intend to continue building in this space by adding value in the best way that I know how: improving individual & collective mental health. Neuromodulation interventions are an untapped source of tremendous potential in this regard, as is the monitoring of mental health states with biometrics like EEG or EMG. Democratization, Monetization, and Value Creation can be facilitated in web3. Complementing this objectivity, Depth Psychology is also important.

I believe it is our responsibility to ensure these become Public Goods; naturally, Gitcoin is critical infrastructure for integrating this technology into web3. This is how we prioritize the End Users and onboard them to web3.

What Web3 Qualifications/Skills I have:

  • Ability to communicate the concept of web3 & DeSci to (Neuro) Science oriented audiences
  • Ability to articulate Elastic DeFi (see Zero-Liquidation Loans; Mechanized Vaults & Inflation Resistance)
  • Holistic perspective of Blockchains/Digital Assets that can be relayed to a broader generalized audience: Elemental Models of the World
  • On-chain history of participation in various DAOs, albeit peripheral; during this bear market, I have taken a more active participatory role in ForthDAO where Inflation-Resistant Money - Decentralized Flatcoin - has been developed (also models the behavior of Neurotransmitters). Iā€™ve submitted a proposal here to direct the utility of this Digital Asset SPOT towards the funding of DeSci & Public Goods on Gitcoin; I intend to continue advancing these efforts.

I care deeply about about digital public infrastructure, and in particular the design and deployment of better, more user-centric, solutions for decentralized identity. Gitcoin is best placed to advance these technologies, and I am excited to support itā€™s mission as a Steward.

Web3 Qualifications / Skills
I previously led technical community at Blockchain Commons, an open source technology nonprofit founded by internet cryptography and self-sovereign identity pioneer Christopher Allen. In addition, I cofounded the Humanetics Workshop, an interdisciplinary working group focused on advancing proof of personhood discourse and technologies for cryptoeconomic systems. The project was awarded an Ethereum Foundation grant in 2021. More recently I built Everyname, a name and address middleware protocol that fetches data from any blockchain naming system. It is a free-to-use public good for the community.

    Iā€™m the co-founder of Boys Club and over the past year and a half, have helped nurture a community of thousands of people - primarily women - around the world. The mission of Boys Club is to bring new voices to the new internet. We do that through our social DAO and Discord, through various media channels, and through IRL events. I write a weekly newsletter on web3, host 2 podcasts and throw events from trivia nights to fireside chats. Boys Club also publishes a physical and digital Zine, and generally we love to experiment with the tech, especially when and where it intersects with culture. Iā€™m also involved with Celo and helped steward the recent rebrand, and love the regenerative finance movement generally. For the past 20 years, Iā€™ve helped some of the worldā€™s biggest and best brands engage more effectively with their most important audiences, and in that time, Iā€™ve seen first-hand the power that people possess - when mobilized - to create meaningful change at scale. For the past 2 years, Iā€™ve seen it more intimately as a pro bono senior advisor to KultureCity, the worldā€™s leading nonprofit on sensory needs and invisible disabilities. When I took the plunge into web3 as a strategist and partnerships lead 3 years ago, I saw the potential of this new technology to uplift disenfranchised populations in a variety of ways, and when I first met Kevin Owocki a year ago - and participated in my first Gitcoin funding round on behalf of KultureCity earlier this year - I saw the vision clear as day. Quadratic funding - empowering the will of the people to unlock potentially billions of dollars in corporate funds - ensuring that the causes real people care about most passionately are disproportionately supported - is one of the most consequential opportunities of our time. Over the years, Gitcoinā€™s mission has evolved from a philosophy for how to organize and fund the development of decentralized communities, to operating ā€œin productionā€ and actually funding critically important work throughout the nascent blockchain ecosystem.

My values are perfectly aligned with Gitcoinā€™s mission statement. This vision ensures that the development of public goods can continue to flourish amidst a complex fundraising environment that often misallocates capital towards maximally extractive goods and services.

Over the past few years, Iā€™ve been fortunate to work with a number of core development teams across various protocols including Dfinity, Celo, and most recently, Cosmos. I am deeply passionate about Gitcoinā€™s mission, and wholeheartedly believe in our potential for significant global impact. Iā€™ve worked in Gitcoinā€™s MMM Workstream for a year, where I initially took on writing and content management roles before stepping into project and campaign coordination across the various brands (while still overseeing content across all channels). Iā€™ve been full time since September, 2022.

I greatly value effective coordination and understand its crucial role in our collective mission and individual contributions. I equally like to understand tasks and decisions deeply from all angles, actively trying to fill gaps and refine processes. A few of the key initiatives Iā€™ve co-led/led have been to run multiple flagship grants round marketing campaigns (namely Alpha & Beta Round), help navigate our community through the transition from cGrants to Grants Stack and I helped revamp our support pages. Iā€™m currently running campaigns across all products: Grants Stack, Allo Protocol, Gitcoin Passport, alongside the Gitcoin Grants program and the overall Gitcoin brand. Iā€™m working on refining processes of grants round marketing, as well as helping set up processes to become more efficient with our coordination efforts.

Statement of Intention / My Values & Reason for Joining: Our life goal is to set a path for a sustainable, prosperous, pluralistic, future for our species. Whether weā€™re talking about the creation of new nations, new cultures, or new social structures, web3 dramatically expands the options available to us in ways that were not even conceivable during previous attempts to optimize these systems. Gitcoin has been critical in the web3 ecosystem and it is only natural it would play a role in how those systems become threaded into the social and governmental fabric of our world. We want to work to ensure that happens.

What Web3 Qualifications / Skills I have: We wrote the Pragmatistā€™s Guide to Governanceā€”a book that topped the WSJā€™s bestseller list and was described by Glen Weyl (co-creator of quadratic voting and founder of Radical Exchange), as ā€œprobably the highest information gain thing Iā€™ve read on [governance] in a good while and probably the most entertaining thing Iā€™ve ever read on it. I am far from ā€œagreeingā€ with most of it, but I donā€™t thin thatā€™s the pointā€¦regardless of your perspective, youā€™ll get something from this."

In addition to being governance theory nerds, we put a lot of thought and research into how humans function in this new world of technology more broadly. This is something we go deep into on The Green Pill Podcast with Kevin Owocki, Kyle Weiss, and Kevin Olsen. We also cover these topics a lot on our own podcast, Based Camp.

Regarding Web3 specifically: Weā€™ve been stoked about it since we went through a mostly-crypto-startup-saturated 500 Startups batch back in 2014, which is what first got us exposed to the community. We know it has transformative potential and would love to participate in that transformation.

Why we applied as a two-person unit: Web3 dramatically expands the concept of what the granular unit of humanity is as it applies to our relationships with others. While in modern Western culture the individual is the core unit of identity, this has not been the historical norm. Thus, in experimenting with one new model of a cultural group that both values gender equality but is also resistant to prosperity-induced fertility collapse (something that is very rare), we have built a culture in which the core unit of identity is the family itself. As such, our social media accounts, bank accounts, crypto wallets, and emails are shared. We also run all our companies together, run all our foundations together, and write all our books together. (This actually lowers our voting power dramatically in most quadratic voting environments but makes sense since most people know us from our shared identity.)

I am new to web3 but at the same time I am curious and excited to dive into this world and GitCoin in particular. I think that effective and transparent governance should extend beyond closed circles and should be accessible to a wider audience, including newcomers like myself.
