GG24 Sensemaking Bounty: Proposed Allocation
We received 22 sensemaking submissions for GG24. Thank you to everyone who contributed.
We’re now allocating the $10k bounty. After reviewing all submissions, we’re proposing an equal split across the top 4 reports ($2,500 each):
1. Metafunding: Fund PGF Mechanisms & Research — DavidDAO / GainForest
Data-driven analysis of PGF mechanisms using 5.2 million Gitcoin donation records. Identifies declining donor engagement and proposes a domain for peer-reviewed research on funding mechanisms. Strong coalition backing (GainForest, Hypercerts Foundation, Funding the Commons) with $35k+ already committed. This has multiplier potential for the whole ecosystem — improving how we fund is upstream of everything else we do.
2. Open Data Standards, Infrastructure & Analytics for Ethereum — Rohit
Tackles data fragmentation across L2s — a real coordination failure as Ethereum scales. Mapped 20+ use cases and proposed a taxonomy for funding. Strong strategic analysis of a problem that Gitcoin is well-positioned to address as a neutral funder. As the ecosystem fragments, having an open data infrastructure becomes a public good in itself.
3. Privacy-Preserving, Legally-Compliant KYC for Grants and Web3 — M0nkeyFl0wer
Addresses a systemic problem (KYC data breaches) with real-world consequences, backed by extensive evidence from breaches at Ledger, Fractal ID, Transak, and Coinbase. The author is a former Gitcoin grants program lead. The proposal to fund and dogfood privacy-preserving KYC solutions is directly actionable and aligned with Gitcoin’s mission.
4. Outcome-Based Funding for Web3 Popups — Nidhi Harihar
Proposes transparent, impact-driven funding for popup cities and residencies using Hypercerts. Draws on direct experience as participant and organizer. Good fit given Gitcoin’s history with Zuzalu-related rounds. Innovative mechanism thinking that could set a standard for how IRL community infrastructure gets funded.
