For context, basically in the yeeter RFP thread (RFP - Allo Yeeter Build - #3 by noahchonlee) I asked if it would be a good idea to get builders interested in that project through a prize. Rena responded that sounds great and Sov brought up that it would be best if this matches Gitcoin’s north star of having more volume through Allo.
So I wondered if we could align viaPrize goal of having people launch prizes and Gitcoin’s goal of more volume through allo if we added crowdfunded prizes as one of the mechanisms in allo.
However this would require much more dev work than simply adding the crowdfunded prize smart contract to the github as one of the allocation strategies as v 2.1 of allo is meant to be more modular and interoperable.
In conclusion, great idea and thankful for the help understanding it but it’s not something we’re prioritizing right now. If people want to launch prizes with viaprize that’s awesome and it supports our project which exists thanks to the Gitcoin ecosystem, but we’re not going to be a mechanism in Allo right now.
In part this is because we’re seeing how much demand there is for building out multi-chain and fiat capabilities to existing platforms, so we’re looking at if that is the most helpful way to use our time with the Gitcoin ecosystem.
I plan to make another thread focused on showing estimated impact of adding fiat and multi-chain to grants stack and our plan on how this could be implemented
