Open DAO & Identity Toolkit – Public Goods for Gitcoin

Tagline:

Empower communities to launch DAOs and ensure fair participation with open-source identity tools.

Overview:

We’re building an open-source toolkit that enables communities, developers, and nonprofits to:

  1. Launch DAOs quickly using pre-built templates and governance tools.
  2. Integrate Gitcoin Passport and other Sybil-resistant identity verification systems.

This project strengthens Gitcoin by expanding public goods adoption, securing fair participation in grants, and lowering barriers for new builders.

Problem:

  • Many communities want to experiment with decentralized governance but face technical barriers.
  • Fake accounts reduce fairness in quadratic funding and grant rounds.
  • Developers and grassroots projects struggle to access Gitcoin grants efficiently.

Solution:

DAO Starter Kit:

  • Smart contract templates (treasury + voting)
  • One-click deployment UI
  • Governance guides & multilingual educational resources

SybilShield Toolkit:

  • Pre-built Gitcoin Passport / BrightID / Proof of Humanity integrations
  • APIs for identity verification in grants & DAOs
  • Tutorials and templates for fair participation
  • Optional analytics dashboard to monitor integrity

Roadmap (6 Months):

Milestone 1: Build DAO smart contract templates & SybilShield library (JS/Python) | Month 1–2

Milestone 2: Develop UI for DAO deployment + example integrations | Month 3

Milestone 3: Create tutorials, guides, and educational content | Month 4

Milestone 4: Test toolkit with live Gitcoin Grant participants | Month 5

Milestone 5: Add multi-language support & launch outreach campaign | Month 6

Use of Funds and budget Breakdown ($20,000):

  • Development (DAO + SybilShield) : 50% [DAO smart contracts, one-click deployment UI, SybilShield library & API integrations] - $10,000
  • Documentation & educational content: 20% [Tutorials, guides, videos, example projects, multilingual support] - $4,000
  • Community testing & workshops: 20% [Live testing with Gitcoin grants & DAOs, workshops, feedback sessions] - $4,000
  • Outreach & translations: 10% [Marketing materials, social media promotion, translations for global adoption] - $2,000

Impact:

  • Makes DAOs accessible worldwide.
  • Ensures fair participation in Gitcoin Grants via Sybil-resistant identity verification.
  • Expands the public goods ecosystem and strengthens open-source adoption.
  • Directly aligns with Gitcoin’s mission: **funding public goods, promoting open-source, and building secure, inclusive digital infrastructure.

Thank you for your post.

We’ve moved away from funding general infrastructure/tooling projects like DAO creation kits unless it has a very specific and defined use case for Gitcoin Grants (as. you have seen the last few of these here on the forum).

I’d encourage you to review our GG24 Structure and Strategy to understand our’s current focus for specific, high-impact areas rather than broad infrastructure plays.

If you’re interested in contributing to the ecosystem, consider participating in existing initiatives or applying to relevant grant rounds where experimental tools might find better fit and validation.
